There's an old saying in the rug trade — once the dust of the carpet gets into your lungs, you never leave. We grew up around rugs — the color, the texture, the history — without knowing they'd become a life's work. In 2006, we got our first taste of the business, and that was it. Armed with a catalog and not much else, we started selling — to furniture stores, to carpet dealers, anywhere someone would take a meeting.
We still remember the early days on the road — loading up a van, knocking on doors, hoping someone would flip through the catalog and take a chance. Some did. A diner owner placed an order on the spot. A carpet dealer in Connecticut gave a teenager a shot, treated him with respect, and called back a month later for more. Those small moments of trust kept the whole thing going.
What we discovered along the way changed everything. You could design something beautiful, bring it into the world, and watch it sell — because the quality spoke for itself. That was enough to build on.
By 2013, what started as a solo hustle had become a two-person team — and then a company. We incorporated, traveled — Turkey, India, Europe, East Asia — studying centuries of craft traditions, learning how yarn, color, and construction come together at the loom. We learned to obsess over the details that move product on your floor — yarn twist, color saturation, pile density, how a rug feels underfoot on day one versus year five.
Good design is often about subtraction — knowing what to leave out so the pattern can breathe. We spend as much time harmonizing colors and simplifying motifs as we do adding them. Sometimes the best version of a rug is the one with less. That process is part science, part instinct — and it's why our designs sell through, not just sell in.
Along the way, the product kept getting better. Technology was transforming what was possible — and we made it our job to deliver that quality at price points that work for your business and your customers.
Today, nearly two decades later, Well Woven designs hundreds of styles in-house — drawing from global craft traditions spanning centuries, from heritage motifs to modern geometrics to washable collections that hold up to daily wear. We manufacture, we curate, and we stand behind every piece that carries our name.
None of this happened alone. It takes a community to build a company — and ours was built by every retailer, dealer, and buyer who took a chance on us along the way. The stores that gave us floor space before we had a reputation. The buyers who reordered before the first shipment was even unpacked. The partners who opened doors they didn't even know they were opening. Not every relationship lasted — but every one mattered. We carry all of it with us.
We've loved this journey — from a folding table to a catalog that lives on showroom floors across the country. We're still going.
